Farmer Mental Health & Well-being
Farming has always been mentally taxing, but between fluctuations in commodity prices, high input costs, and severe weather, the last few years have been especially challenging for many Georgia farmers. As a member-owned cooperative, our focus is on the well-being of our borrowers. That concern extends to not only financial wellness, but also to the mental wellness of our members.
AgGeorgia is a proud to provide the below resources to our members, or any farmer struggling with mental health, through our involvement and support of multiple organizations. These include the Farm Family Wellness Alliance, the Georgia Agricultural Wellness Alliance, and HERO Agriculture.
What Resources are Available?
Farm Family Wellness Alliance – The FFWA is an initiative to provide access to mental health and wellness services to all farm families in the United States at no cost. Services are provided through a multi-layer approach. The first layer is an anonymous online community called Togetherall, which features a broad array of peer-to-peer support and a library of self-paced resources. If needed, an additional layer of support is available through Personal Assistance Services (PAS).
Georgia Agricultural Wellness Alliance – GAWA is a coalition of farmers, nonprofits, colleges and universities, health organizations, state agencies, agricultural commissions/associations and agribusinesses who work together toward a common goal of aligning efforts to improve well-being of farmers and farming communities in Georgia.
Georgia Farm and Ranch Stress Project – A product of the Southern Ag Exchange Network, this program is designed to help farmers going through a challenging time, experiencing high levels of stress, anxiety, or depression.
HERO Agriculture – Founded by military veteran and farmer Mike Reynolds, this organization focuses on veteran suicide prevention and uses farming to help veterans find hope, heal, and build purposeful lives.
